Snow conditions and open slopes for Christmas

December 9, 2025 / Updated December 9, 2025

Dear guests!

❄️🎿 Christmas is approaching, and we are doing everything we can to open more slopes. 🎄❄️

There has been around 30 cm of natural snow, which provides both a good Christmas atmosphere and a nice base for all the slopes. But unfortunately, natural snow alone is not enough – to be able to open more slopes, we need artificial snow.

To make snow, we need three things; water, cold and compressed air – a completely natural product. When we combine this with the labor of our skilled snow people, we get results. We have water, air and skilled people – but we lack cold!

We have had good production periods in between, but the mild weather has caught up with us, also above 1000 m. We work hard as soon as the thermometer shows blue, but we see that we will have challenges in producing enough snow on all slopes for Christmas.

So far we have produced snow in the children's slope, Turisten, the heistraseen and the Fjellstølheisen. These are the slopes we will be able to open by Christmas, and they will open on December 20th.

After December 20th, we will not be able to produce any more snow until the New Year, out of concern for the safety of our guests who will be using the facility at that time.

We pack the natural snow on the access trails, Cruiser and Vardinløypa so that they can be used at your own risk, but these trails will be officially closed.

What we will open, however, will be well-groomed slopes – and it will be good skiing!

Greetings from the Snow People at Valdres Alpine Center!
